Beating the competition from HBO and Syfy, Netflix has acquired the production rights for twelve new episodes of Charlie Brooker's anthology Black Mirror. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Brooker and Annabel Jones, who created the series, each episode of which tells a separate story, will act as showrunners. Brooker has already begun work on scripts for the new episodes, which will begin production later this year in the UK.

"It's all amazing - tons of new Black Mirror episodes on the right platform for that. Netflix will give us access to viewers around the world so that we can create stories that are bigger, quirky and more internationally focused than ever before, while remaining true to the spirit of the Black Mirror. I can only hope that none of the ideas from the new stories will materialize in real life, "Brooker said in a statement.

The premiere of the first season of Black Mirror took place in 2011 on the British Channel 4, second – in 2013, and a special Christmas episode with John Hamm debuted in December 2014. Netflix received the broadcast rights for all seven episodes last year.

The video management has not decided yet at the time of writing. when the new episodes come out and in what mode. Due to the specifics of the series, it may be better to release it "in batches" rather than the whole, as Netflix is used to.
