W. Earl Brown (Deadwood) and Michael Lindall (The Accused) starred in the pilot of the WGN America drama Roadside Picnic, based on the cult work of Soviet writers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. The cast joined the previously confirmed lead role of Matthew Goode ("The Keepers"). This is reported by the publication Deadline.

The events in the "Roadside Picnic" unfold in the near future on Earth, where, after the visit of aliens, many secrets and mysteries remain. In the center of the story is the veteran stalker Red (Good), who, breaking the law, penetrates into anomalous zones to bring artifacts from there, for which they pay good money. The story also asks about the purpose of the alien visit.

The script for the pilot was written by Jack Paglen ("Alien: Covenant" ), directed by Alan Taylor (Terminator 5: Genisys). The two will share executive producing duties with Neil H. Moritz ("The Preacher").

Brown will play Buzzard, an experienced and wealthy stalker, the self-proclaimed leader of his smuggling associates. Lindall got the role of Tender, a fearless ex-soldier who accompanies Red on his foray into the "zone."

In 1979, the famous Soviet director Andrei Tarkovsky shot the movie "Stalker", based on the Strugatskys' story, which had practically no nothing to do with the content of the book, except for individual titles, names and, in fact, the mention of the "zones" themselves.
