Walt Disney has ditched funding for Ghost in the Shell, based on popular Japanese manga, starring Scarlett Johansson. This was reported by Variety, without specifying the reasons.

Another Hollywood major, Paramount Pictures, will become the new partner of DreamWorks studio, which is going to shoot the picture, promising to support the previously announced premiere date of March 31, 2017.

Recall that the rights to movie the manga have long belonged to Steven Spielberg and his studio. Initially, he himself planned to make a movie based on it, but then gave up the director's chair to Rupert Sanders, the creator of the movie Snow White and the Huntsman. Spielberg himself will confine himself to the production functions, which he will share with Ari Arad, Avi Arad and Stephen Paul.

In the center of the plot of the original Japanese comic book, a special police unit that deals with high-tech crime. In addition to Scarlett Johansson, the movie will feature actor Sam Riley, familiar to the audience from the movie Maleficent. Earlier it was reported that he got the part of the main antagonist of the movie.
