Recall that Captain Marvel, aka Shazam, was invented by illustrator Charles Clarence Beck and writer Bill Parker in the late 30s of the last century. A dreamy teenager named Billy Batson was chosen by the powerful wizard Shazam to become a superhero, and now, by saying the name of the wizard, Billy turns into an adult, endowed with the power of mythical gods.
It is noteworthy that in the 40s Captain Marvel was much more popular than another superhero - Superman. comics with his participation were sold in much larger quantities. He also became the first comic book hero to appear on the screen: in 1941, a TV series was made about him. However, in the early 50s, the publication of Captain Marvel comics was discontinued due to licensing disputes, and no trace of its former popularity remained.
