The US Department of Justice has approved the terms of the merger between Walt Disney and 21st Century Fox. According to Deadline, as expected, the regulator's only condition was that Walt Disney refused to acquire regional sports channels owned by Fox.

"American consumers will benefit from competition between cable sports channels owned by Disney and Fox that ultimately prevent the rise in prices for cable TV subscriptions, - commented Assistant Attorney General Macan Delrahim of the US Department of Justice's Antitrust Division. - Today's decision will ensure continued competition in regional markets.

Recall that initially Walt Disney planned acquire Fox assets for $ 52.4 billion, but then after Comcast offered $ 65 billion, the rate was raised to $ 71.3 billion. The deal has yet to be approved by some other US government agencies, but after the Justice Department's decision, these will be formal decisions.

Shareholders of both companies should also have their say at special meetings on this matter. Comcast has yet to comment on the incident.
