In Moscow, at the age of 93, the famous Soviet director, screenwriter and teacher Marlen Khutsiev died. Death occurred in one of the capital's clinics, where he was delivered on the evening of March 16, 2019. The date of farewell and the place of burial will be announced later.

Marlen Khutsiev was born in Tbilisi in 1925. After graduating from high school, he studied at the directing department of VGIK. He started working at the Odessa Film Studio, and in 1965 moved to Mosmovie. He taught at VGIK, headed the directing department. For two decades he was the secretary of the board of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR.

He made his debut in cinema as a director in the early 50s. He quickly achieved success, and his finest hour came after the release of the melodrama "Spring on Zarechnaya Street" which became one of the most popular movies of its era.

Marlen Khutsiev also shot the movies "I am twenty years old", "Two Fedora", "It was the month of May" and others. He was awarded the title "People's Artist of the USSR", the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of three degrees and other high government and professional awards.
