Apple TV freezes Charlie Hunnam series

The streaming service Apple TV has halted production of Shantaram, starring Charlie Hunnam. As noted by Variety, the company made this decision due to the lack of a script that suits it, which was to be prepared by showrunner Eric Singer.

The latter is said to have lost his post, and Apple TV began to search for a suitable replacement. It is noteworthy that the creators of the show had already managed to shoot the first two episodes when problems with the script were discovered. It is still unknown whether movieing will resume.

Note that the series is based on the work of Gregory David Roberts, which takes place in the 80s of the last century. In the center of the plot is a hero named Lin, a former robber who escaped from an Australian prison and is trying to establish a new life in the slums of Bombay. He gets the nickname "Shantaram" and starts working for a major local gangster. The book contains a lot of philosophical reflections and aphoristic reasoning. It has been translated into 39 languages.

This is not the first attempt to movie a literary source. In 2004, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the novel, hoping that Johnny Depp would play the lead role. But things did not go beyond plans.
