The BBC channel has presented the first teaser of the new season of the popular TV series "Doctor Who", in which a woman will play the main role for the first time. British actress Jodie Whittaker, remembered for one of the key roles in the drama "Murder on the Beach", will lead mainly a new cast.

Recall that the previous performer of the title role, Peter Capaldi first boarded the TARDIS in 2013 year and left with show director Steven Moffat after season ten, which premiered in April 2017. Capaldi will make his last appearance as a familiar character in a special Christmas edition late last year.

The decision to play the Doctor for the first time by a woman was made by the new executive producer of Doctor Who, Chris Chibnell. "I always wanted to make the Thirteenth Doctor a woman, and we are all thrilled that we did it. Jodie's audition just blew our brains out. Jody is a sought-after actress, funny, inspiring, super smart and witty, strong and soulful - what it takes to Doctors, "Chibnell said in an interview in mid-2017.

The show's next season kicks off in fall 2018.
