WarnerMedia is in talks to sell one of the largest digital platforms and anime and manga publishers, Crunchyroll. According to The Information, Sony can act as the buyer, and the deal is estimated at $ 1.5 billion.

The parties have so far declined to comment on this, the reason for the sale has not been specified either. It is likely that in this way the parent company AT & T wants to reduce WarnerMedia's huge debt burden, which was estimated at $ 151 billion.

Sony was chosen as a potential buyer, most likely due to the fact that it already owns by Funimation, which is considered one of the largest anime publishers in the United States

As a reminder, that the head of WarnerMedia had previously announced a massive reorganization and cost-cutting program. The head of the streaming service HBO Max, which did not launch very well at the end of May 2020, heads of the DC comics publisher and many other high-ranking functionaries from subsidiaries were fired from their post. In total, about 800 employees will be laid off.
