Netflix will change advertising policy and cut staff

Netflix announced a change in advertising strategy and staff cuts. As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, from now on the streaming service will focus not so much on promoting new movies and series as on advertising its own services.

In connection with these reforms, at least 15 employees from the marketing department will be fired this week ... Company sources say the cuts could be larger.

Insiders also say the change came from new CMO Jackie Lee-Joe, who moved to Netflix from BBC Studios in July after the former Marketing Director Kelly Bennett. The new chief was dissatisfied with the ineffective expenses of the unit headed by him and began to create a more efficient structure. Note, that according to official reports, Netflix spent over $ 1.8 billion on advertising in 2018 alone.

Note that there are 167 million Netflix subscribers worldwide. The most significant growth in 2019 was demonstrated by the markets of the Middle East and Asia. Netflix's main competitors have yet to launch services outside of North America.
