Samsung has unveiled the new Galaxy Book S to replace the previous Galaxy Book 2. Unlike its hybrid predecessor, the announced Samsung laptop is not a 2-in-1 device - a standard case does not turn it into a tablet and the keyboard remains non-removable.
Galaxy Book S has at least two specific features. First of all, instead of the expected choice in favor of Intel and AMD processors, the Korean manufacturer decided to use the Qualcomm chipset. In addition, the new product has an increased battery life. According to the company, the mobile PC can handle up to 23 hours of continuous video playback.
The new laptop is equipped with a 13.3-inch IPS-screen with Full HD resolution, on the sides and top it is limited by thin frames. Depending on the configuration, the internal memory is available in 256 and 512 GB versions. It also provides the ability to use a microSD card up to 1 TB. 8GB RAM is present in all assemblies.
Samsung's high-performance Qualcomm chipset comes in the form of Snapdragon 8cx, a solution specifically designed for Windows mobile PCs. The eight-core chipset was announced at the end of 2018. The Snapdragon 8cx platform is complemented by the Adreno 680 graphics. The built-in operating system is Windows 10. The device is protected using biometric technologies. The Galaxy Book S has Windows Hello support. In addition, the keyboard is equipped with a fingerprint reader.
Galaxy Book S has a slim aluminum body in a relatively light weight of less than 1 kg. Its thickness does not exceed a maximum of 12 mm, which makes it similar in size to Apple's recently upgraded MacBook Air. In addition, the Samsung notebook has received a premium speaker system with support for audio enhancement Dolby Atmos.
There are practically no wired interfaces in the new laptop. Instead, the laptop has a pair of USB-C connectors on either side of the case and an audio input. The Galaxy Book S also has a nanoSIM slot, with which the device can be connected to the mobile Internet almost anywhere with network coverage. The laptop supports fast charging technology, has Bluetooth 5 and Wi-Fi modules, and a GPS receiver is available.
The manufacturer's suggested price for a Samsung laptop in the simplest configuration is $ 1,000.
