For over five years, Acer has been producing Swift notebooks. These devices are popular with users due to their number of advantages. These include good performance, cool design, excellent build quality, reasonable price. This year, the series received AMD's leading edge chip, the Ryzen 5 4500U. Let's tell you how this affected the capabilities of the new gadget.

High-tech and energy efficient processor

AMD has pushed Intel a lot in the chipset market. An important role in this was played by the fact of stagnation in the technological development of the latter.

The Acer Swift 3 laptop received a fourth generation Ryzen 5 4500U processor, created using 7-nanometer technology. It belongs to the Renoir family. The chip is equipped with six Zen 2 cores with increased frequencies (base - 2.3 GHz, maximum - 4 GHz).

In comparison with the previous Picasso processors, the new product can execute 15% more instructions per cycle. Specific productivity per watt has doubled here. Specific heat dissipation is reduced by up to 15%, which is well suited for small and thin notebooks.

A Radeon RX Vega 6 video chip with a maximum operating frequency of 1500 MHz is responsible for the graphics in the processor. It has 6 clusters with 64 cores, 512 MB of memory. Each computational unit of the new graphics accelerator is capable of providing up to 59% power increase in comparison with the previous series of devices of this class.

External design

The case of the Acer Swift 3 is made of magnesium and aluminum alloy. Only the frame around the screen is plastic. There will always be a gap for air intake between the contact surface and the bottom of the laptop due to the presence of four rubber feet.

To cool the device, there are ventilation holes in the area of the screen mounting hinges. Hot air is effectively blown out through them.

The first users have already appreciated the work of the cooling system. It does not allow the device to heat up above 380C, even with maximum loads. At the same time, coolers do not make much noise.

The matte keyboard has the same color as the body of the device. The buttons are comfortable and soft. This should please touch typists.

Working at night will be helped by the white backlighting of the keyboard.

Gestures are available to control the touchpad. When pressed, a distinct click is heard. The panel is located to the left of the center of the device. It does not have separate keys, which sometimes leads to accidental operation.

Weighing 1.2 kg, the laptop is 16 mm thick. Considering its modest dimensions: 32.3 x 21.9 x 1.6 cm, it can be assumed that the laptop will not become a heavy burden and will fit in most of today's fashionable backpacks or bags.

Sound & Picture

Two stereo speakers are responsible for the sound capabilities of the product, which were placed in the lower part, on a bevel, where it is difficult to block them. The device supports Acer TrueHarmony and DTS Audio technologies. This allows you to get good quality sound, but its volume reserves are not enough.

Swift 3 is equipped with a 14-inch matte IPS panel with Full HD resolution. A high-quality matrix provides wide viewing angles: up to 1700 in vertical and horizontal planes, good color rendering and high maximum brightness.

The screen has thin bezels, which allows it to occupy more than 82% of the total usable front panel area.

To work with the apparatus lying down, you can expand it to 1800. This allows you to make the hinges of a reliable design.

Performance and interfaces

Swift 3 is controlled by the home version of Windows 10. It should be noted that there is a useful pre-installed software: photo and video editor from Acer, Care Center utility. The latter helps to update drivers, analyzes the state of the system.

512 GB / 1 TB PCIe SSD NVMe M.2 is used as a drive. It has a high read and write speed. RAM can be 8 or 16 GB.

The presence of such a powerful filling contributes to the high dynamics of the software. Any applications and programs work quickly, the responsiveness of the system leaves a pleasant impression.

It takes no more than 10 seconds to turn on and boot the laptop, the process is facilitated by the presence of a fingerprint scanner in the lower right corner of the keyboard.

The device supports Wi-Fi 6 protocol, Bluetooth 5.1 standard and 2x2 MU-MIMO technology for fast wireless communication. The laptop is equipped with two standard USB ports (3.2 and 2.0) and one Type-C second generation, supporting DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery fast charging.

There is also an HDMI port for connecting external monitors and a 3.5mm jack, which lovers of listening to music files will surely be delighted.

Modest battery with good optimization

Acer Swift 3 is equipped with a 4343 mAh battery. At first glance, it may seem that this is very little. However, the power consumption processes are regulated by a good chipset. This allows you to use the device away from the outlet for 8-10 hours, which is already good.

For charging, there is a 65 W power supply that can fully restore energy reserves in 1 hour 45 minutes.

Acer Swift 3 turned out to be universal among developers. It is compact, has a modern design, efficient filling. The latter allows you to use the gadget not only for work, but also for games. Quite good autonomy makes it possible to operate the laptop for almost a whole day.
