July is like a solid comma, when the entire gaming industry takes a short pause, then with renewed vigor to rain down on the gamer a hail of game releases in the fall season. But nevertheless, this month did not remain completely without good projects, which we will talk about in our selection of the main games of July 2018.

Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered

The most "destructive" action in history will soon receive a modern re-release, with improved graphics, support for 4k-resolution and other goodies. If you have never heard of the original game, then there is at least one reason to pay attention to the remaster - a completely destructible environment.

Red Faction Guerrilla was impressive back in 2009, and thanks to the fact that little attention is paid to physical bells and whistles today, the "Red Faction" still looks relevant today. Just do not expect too much from the plot or gameplay, relax, pick up a pickaxe and wreak devastating chaos on the Red Planet. In this case, you will definitely not regret buying a remaster.

The Spectrum Retreat

If destroying is not your calling, then you should wait for The Spectrum Retreat, whose gameplay is focused on solving puzzles, and instead of furiously swinging a pickaxe, it offers a leisurely exploration of locations. Gameplay and futuristic styling evoke popular puzzles like the Portal and CUBE series

In addition to mental tasks and a stylish cover, the developer has not forgotten (and there is only one person on the staff, who, moreover, received the prestigious BAFTA award for the initial demo of the game) and the plot content of the project. The game promises to tell us the mysterious story of the future hotel The Penrose. Uncovering the secrets of this mysterious place, as well as meeting other visitors is the main task of the player.

Octopath Traveler

Release date: July 13

Fans of old-school role-playing projects should not forget about the release of Octopath Traveler, a new JRPG, made according to all the canons of the first parts of Final Fantasy. The first thing that captivates when looking at Octopath Traveler is the graphic design. The developers were able to skillfully combine two-dimensional characters with simple 3D objects and modern special effects, which in general creates a "lamp" picture that does not cause rejection (even by modern standards).

The details of the plot are kept secret, but it is already known for sure that there are basic attributes of Japanese RPGs, such as an open and full of adventures world, as well as tactical turn-based battles.

It will not do without replayability, for example, 8 starting characters will be available for the player's choice, each of which will have a unique starting location, abilities and storyline quests. One "but" - Octopath Traveler is announced as exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

Adventure Time Pirates of the Enchiridion

Game adaptation of the cartoon "Adventure Time", what could be better? Well, perhaps only a game based on Adventure Time, which is being developed by the cartoon's creative directors, and where popular American actors were invited to voice the characters.

Adventure Time Pirates of the Enchiridion stylistically stays true to the original cartoon and tells another story from the life of Flynn and Jake. Gameplay Pirates of the Enchiridion will be closest to modern RPG projects in the open world. In addition to attracting cartoon creators to the creation of the game, the studio known for Silent Hill Shattered Memories is responsible for the development of the project. Therefore, we can expect that the game adaptation will be interesting even for those players who have not heard of Adventure Times.

The Banner Saga 3

Release date: July 24

The Banner Saga 3 is perhaps the main game of July 2018. Of course, each of the trilogy's releases does not look like an expensive AAA project, and in general, they raised money for a pretty penny on Kickstarter for the development of the game, but the budget in no way prevents you from enjoying The Banner Saga. After all, if you get used to all the crutches of indie games, then in Banner Saga you can see a worthy heir to the best BioWare projects.

Despite the imminent release of The Banner Saga 3, the creators of the game remain silent about the innovations, but we can definitely expect new heroes, opponents and even more tactical maneuvers in battles. With regards to the plot, here Stoic studio got off with a short commentary and said that "the scenario of the game will be even more confusing and strange."

The summer of 2018 really turned out to be an extremely rotten season for new gaming novelties. But on the other hand, during the lull in the gaming industry, you can pay attention to the high-profile releases of 2018, for which there was always not enough time before.

We recommend not to miss God of War and Kingdom Come Deliverance. The latter, by the way, after six months and half a dozen patches finally became completely playable, and also got the first DLC.
