Fuchsia OS - a portion of details about the new operating system from Google

Google has two operating systems on the market today: Android and Chrome OS. The former has taken a particularly strong position, becoming the leading solution in smartphones and other devices - smartwatches, TVs and even cars.

But for the giant from Mountain View, even such success, apparently, is not enough. The corporation is preparing another product - Fuchsia OS. Previously, this OS was shrouded in mystery and guesswork, but thanks to the published documentation, we learned a little more about it.

What is Fuchsia OS?

The Fuchsia Datasheet can be found on the project website, where all previous information about the system is collected. Reading is not for common people, but programmers will find many useful details in it.

First of all, Fuchsia OS has nothing to do with Linux, which the company immediately focuses on. The new shell uses the Zirkon microkernel, and most of the operations are performed in user space.

Despite the "break" with Unix, Fuchsia is at least partially POSIX compliant, which will be good news for developers. One more detail - applications for Fuchsia OS can be developed in the Google Flutter SDK, which is also used for Android and Chrome OS.

When will it be out?

As you can see, Fuchsia is gradually taking on real form. But when will we see her in action? The question sounds complicated, but the answer is incredibly simple: now. The new "operating system" can be installed on some devices, such as the Intel NUC. True, the current version is very early and has practically zero functionality. It's not even an alpha release, but rather a prototype. Therefore, it is still pointless to evaluate the system.

We will disappoint many, but the launch of Fuchsia OS is not a matter of two or three months, but several years. The developers did not say on what devices the OS will debut. Will it replace Android, Chrome OS? Difficult to say.

But there is another real scenario: perhaps the Mountain View giant is already targeting a completely different market segment, where their new "brainchild" will perform specific tasks and develop in parallel with its predecessors.

We will learn more significant details at the Google I / O 2018 conference, which begins on May 8. One of the most anticipated events of this event will be the first official presentation of Fuchsia OS.
