Insider # 8.12: Apple satellites; Motorola Razr; smartphone with foldable display from Huawei

This week's first inside story features three news stories. First, we will discuss the prospects of the American Apple project, which plans to create satellites to ensure high quality wireless communications for its products. Then we'll talk about the reasons for postponing the launch of the foldable Motorola Razr and Huawei's development of a new foldable device.

For better iPhone and iPad performance, satellites will be launched soon

A new data leak from the Apple camp reveals that the company is thinking about creating satellites that could provide high-quality wireless communications for enterprise mobile devices. These space objects will facilitate the transfer of data directly to users' gadgets.

Bloomberg has learned about such plans from the American manufacturer. According to him, at present, under the flags of Apple, a team of highly qualified specialists has been assembled to study several methods of direct data transfer over the Internet.

This approach will allow the company to reduce its dependence on the requests of mobile operators. The advent of such satellites will make it possible to increase the level of control over proprietary products. A more economical and high-quality connection between them in the conditions of their own ecosystem will also become available.

It is possible that in the future the company will receive a number of other advantages over the already functioning method of wireless data exchange.

It is reported that at least ten talented engineers and specialists are currently taking part in the project. However, this number of experts is not enough and Apple continues to search for them.

Experts predict that Americans will be able to create the necessary technology and use it for themselves profitably within five years. However, it is not yet clear whether the research will continue or, in the course of the work, the company will abandon the use of satellites and switch its attention to other, more affordable and low-cost methods of data transmission.

Research in this direction has been going on for a long time. This is evidenced by the fact that in 2017 they were joined by two experts from the Google space project, who held leadership positions there. They were just lured to Apple.

It is also known that Yabloko has recently been negotiating with Boeing on the development of satellites in low-earth orbit, capable of providing Internet access for countries with poorly developed infrastructure.

While the future prospects of the project are not clear, but since five years have been allocated for its implementation, the details will be revealed gradually. You just need to wait a little.

Motorola Razr won't start selling this year

Many fans of new devices are expecting the start of sales of the foldable Motorola Razr. However, this year (as stated earlier), this will definitely not happen.

Motorola announced the suspension of the launch of the smartphone. Despite the rather high cost of the device - $ 1,500, the demand for it exceeds the manufacturer's capabilities. At this time, the company's specialists are engaged in some clarifications. They will have to find out if the company has enough resources to produce the required number of copies.

That is why the start date of sales has been postponed to next year.

The Motorola Razr is a redesigned version of the previously released Razr clamshell. The novelty received a folding 6.2-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2142 x 876 pixels. It folds in half and, when closed, is made as compact as possible.

On the back of the device there is another 2.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. It allows you to view incoming information in the form of SMS messages. They can be viewed, and you can actually respond to this information by voice or touch.

The core of the hardware filling of the Motorola Razr is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. There is also a fingerprint scanner, two cameras with a resolution of 16 and 5 megapixels. Autonomy is provided by a 2510 mAh battery with 15 W charger.

Initially, it was assumed that on December 26 the device will start accepting pre-orders, and its sales will start later. Now this schedule is moving forward, but, as the company said, not significantly. The device is expected to hit store shelves in January 2020.

Huawei will showcase its new flexible smartphone next February

The second generation foldable smartphone Huawei Mate XS will be shown to the general public in two months. It is expected to be announced during the Mobile World Congress, which will be held in Barcelona from February 24 to February 27, 2020.

Now in China, the first version of such a product, the Mate X, is being actively sold; its cost is $ 2,400. The device was presented in February this year, but sales did not begin until November. Technical problems were to blame. It took a long time to fix them.

The smartphone turned out to be original, with a graceful and thin design, a beautiful display.

In addition to this, there is a powerful hardware filling, which contributes to the high performance of the device.

Now the device is sold only in China. The reason for such a narrow sales geography is the trade war between China and the United States, which has affected Huawei.

From early leaks it is known that the novelty will receive a better hinge, a reliable screen and a Huawei Kirin 990 processor. It is assumed that in the first quarter of next year the Chinese will bring their novelty to Europe.
