Every year, the PC as a gaming platform is only getting stronger, offering gamers the best picture compared to consoles, democratic regional price tags and, most importantly, a lot of games, among which you can easily find hits for every taste and genre. And in this post, we offer a look at the 10 most anticipated PC games of 2020.

Half-Life: Alyx

When even Valve's most optimistic fans began to lose hope in the release of a sequel to Half-Life, Gabe Newell finally heard the pleas from fans. A new chapter in the history of Half-Life, albeit without number 3, but with Alix as the main character, with all the same frightening and familiar streets of City 17 and, judging by Valve's promises, revolutionary gameplay thanks to the use of VR technologies.

Surprisingly, despite the imminent release of Half-Life: Alyx, we still have a minimum of information on the game. The story-driven shooter prequel to Half-Life 2, Alix, unlike Gordon, will actively participate in game dialogues, and the gameplay basis is built around the ability to use two hands simultaneously, which, together with the increased degree of interactivity, should guarantee a fresh experience from the gameplay. It's hard to predict how decent the franchise will be for Half-Life: Alyx, but it's clearly one of the most anticipated PC games of 2020.

Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord

Medieval long-term construction Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord has been on the lists of the most anticipated games for many years, but TaleWorlds Entertainment, as if trying the patience of fans, is pushing the release date with enviable regularity. In fact, there is no malicious intent on the part of the developers here, just Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord is one of those large-scale and complex games that can hardly succumb to companies without multimillion-dollar budgets.

It's worth starting at least with the fact that Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord is a full-fledged simulator of a medieval master. The player, at his own will, the player can equally well prove himself both at the siege of fortresses with several hundred soldiers, and as a diplomat, creating marriage alliances of convenience and paving trade routes between cities. The original Mount and Blade, thanks to a mix of third-person action, RPG and open-world sandbox, managed to gain cult status even with unpretentious graphics, so the quality of Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord is hardly in doubt.

Gears Tactics

The Gears Tactics announcement was one of the most unexpected surprises from Microsoft game studios. The Gears of War series, which is entirely dedicated to fierce battles to the accompaniment of crunchy limbs and the roar of chainsaws, seems to be the latest franchise to need a spin-off in the form of single tactical games ala XCOM. But Microsoft decided otherwise.

Judging by all the promises, at least a decent gaming product awaits us, which will combine the leisurely and intelligent gameplay of turn-based games with the bloody brutality inherent in the entire Gears of War series. A 40-hour campaign, giant bosses, destructible environments, a customizable squad of fighters and a story that unfolds 10 years before the start of the original game - available.

Total War Saga: Troy

Troy is the second installment of the Total War Saga series, which focuses on short time periods and highlights from human history. In the case of Total War Saga: Troy, players will have the opportunity to become a member of the ancient Greek epic Iliad, without having to follow Homer's strict storyline. As in all games in the series in Total War Saga: Troy, you are free to choose any faction and radically rewrite history.

At the same time, Total War Saga: Troy seeks to largely follow the literary source and introduces many heroes, such as Achilles and Hector, into the strategy concept. Each hero is not only a unique combat unit, but also the developers' way of telling stories through a series of special quests that heroic characters can go through if they wish. Otherwise, Total War Saga: Troy looks like a worthy successor to the series. Slightly smaller and devoid of cavalry, but still worthy of the Best RTS of 2020 nomination.

Crusader Kings 3

Our top of the most anticipated PC games in 2020 continues with another strategy - Crusader Kings 3, which is created according to all the precepts of a perfect continuation: more beautiful, bigger, better. As before, we go into the era of crusades and arrange the world hegemony of the chosen state, uniting our own army with faith in God or propaganda of godlessness. The map has remained generally the same: from the northern regions of Europe to the vastness of India and Central Africa, but the scale promises to compensate for the 4 times increased detail of the lands.

Like the previous parts, Crusader Kings 3 combines global strategy with RPG elements, but not forgetting to add several new mechanics and features to the well-known gameplay formula. Among the most interesting, we note the hero's stress system and the ability to create their own form of religion, up to heretical teachings preaching cannibalism.

Chivalry 2

When Crusader Kings 3 aims to show the Middle Ages from the height of the royal throne, Chivalry 2 is literally a much more down-to-earth game that introduces rivers of blood, severed limbs, screams of pain and other must-have attributes of the life of a medieval knight. Chivalry 2 continues the line of its predecessor and is preparing to once again take the first place among the best first-person slashers.

Admittedly, Chivalry 2 has every chance for this. From photorealistic graphics to sophisticated combat mechanics that take into account the weight and physical properties of weapons and armor, and also allow you to use improvised items in battle or even continue to fight with a severed limb. Other innovations include more varied customization of character classes, a system of multi-stage siege of cities, where the destruction of the fortress walls is only one of the many stages of the battle.

The Settlers

Restarting cult franchises, and even in a rather conservative genre of strategies, is always a risky venture, but the new The Settlers inspires confidence in the quality of the future strategy. At first glance, the gameplay remained unchanged - we have a familiar RTS with elements of a city-planning simulator, but this time in a stylized cartoon cover created on the engine used in the development of The Division.

But not without significant changes. For example, several strategies for the development of a settlement: faith, battle, and glory, offering fundamentally different gameplay mechanics. They also tried to give individuality to the settlers, each of whom actively interacts with the outside world. And as a nice bonus, encouraging the purchase of The Settlers, there is an abundance of multiplayer modes and the ability to complete a campaign in co-op.

Baldurs Gate 3

Baldurs Gate 3 is not only one of the most anticipated PC games of 2020, but a project that promises to compete for the title of the best game with Cyberpunk 2077 and other blockbusters. Judge for yourself, in Baldurs Gate 3 we have a powerful franchise, the game is being developed by the legends of the role-playing genre from Larian, who gave the magnificent Divinity: Original Sin 2. But no less important is the studio's desire to go all-in, investing all its resources into the game and raising the bar for the entire RPG genre as a whole.
