Samsung forced to remove all materials with a detailed analysis of the shortcomings of the flexible Galaxy Fold smartphone

The flexible Samsung smartphone, announced in February this year, continues to be one of the main news stories. Not so long ago, the reputation of the gadget was seriously damaged after the test samples of the device provided to specialized journalists showed themselves not from the best side.

After that, the Korean company postponed the sale of its new items indefinitely. The reason for the delayed release of a foldable tablet with smartphone functionality is quite expected and is associated with many breakdowns of test samples and the failure of the gadget screen after a couple of days of work.

The popular iFixit resource, which specializes in disassembling and repairing mobile devices, decided to analyze why the Samsung smartphone with a flexible screen was not up to par with the test participants. In general, the site's conclusions boil down to the fact that the main problem of the Galaxy Fold was the leaky case. The published analysis with a detailed study of the opened smartphone was subsequently removed by the iFixit website. This was initiated by Samsung itself.

And yet, the resource presented a fairly reasonable conclusion that the manufacturer should improve in order to bring the Samsung flexible smartphone to mind. First of all, the publication drew attention to the initial fragility of the gadget's OLED screen. These displays are thinner than standard LCD solutions and are therefore more prone to breakage. Minor damage to the protective layer can lead to internal damage.

Plus, the flexible Galaxy Fold is highly sensitive to dust and moisture. Unlike other mobile devices, the foldable smartphone has a leaky structure and is not sufficiently protected from water and debris getting inside. There are rather large gaps in the hinge area of the device, so dust and water can hardly be prevented from entering them.

Another unplanned breakdown of the Galaxy Fold was the unplanned removal of the polymer protection. For security purposes, the smartphone has a protective film, but some reviewers who were given control samples decided that it was a protective cover for transportation and removed it. After that, the chance of breaking the display increases if you accidentally press on it harder. Samsung notes that there will be no removal of the protective coating.

The Korean manufacturer, in turn, tested the reliability of a folding smartphone using a robotic mechanism that flexed and unbent the device up to 200 thousand times. However, the robot performs these operations with perfect precision, applying the same force along the entire fold line. The user may apply pressure unevenly, risking damaging the gadget. At the same time, to the manufacturer's credit, after all independent tests, not a single flexible Samsung smartphone broke from bending.

The iFixit resource, when asked where they got the Galaxy Fold for detailed preparation, said that the sample was received not from the direct manufacturer, but through a "trusted partner". Samsung again, through this intermediary, asked to remove the smartphone review from the publication. iFixit complied with the request, although it had the right to leave everything in place.
