Lenovo unveils world's first flexible screen laptop

Lenovo has continued a growing tradition of flexible gadgets. The company unveiled the Lenovo laptop, the world's first flexible display device. Another feature of the ThinkPad X1 laptop is the lack of a keyboard - all its functions are performed by a touch screen.

Special screen

Announced as a working prototype, the flexible laptop received a 13.3-inch display based on an OLED matrix, surrounded on all sides by large frames. The laptop lacks not only a keyboard, but also physical control buttons and a touchpad. All operations in the ThinkPad X1 are carried out using the main screen or using optional connected equipment.

In terms of its design, the Lenovo laptop bears a resemblance to its “colleague” - the first flexible Galaxy Fold smartphone manufactured by Samsung, which was presented in early 2019. In addition, the special structure adds to it the functions of a tablet computer. When the gadget is in "laptop mode", its stability is provided by a special stand. It is integrated into the back of the case, allowing the laptop to be fixed in one position and not topple over.

General specifications

The ThinkPad X1 was presented at the Lenovo Tech World conference. The developers did not share all the technical details of the laptop. The Lenovo ThinkPad laptop is known to weigh only 0.9kg. This was achieved thanks to a whole range of factors: the absence of a keyboard, a low weight of a number of main components and a flexible polymer base of the display.

Battery specs and memory capacities were not reported, but the laptop's processor is Intel Lakefield. Its presence is indirectly confirmed by the presence in a laptop of one of the versions of the operating platform Windows 10. Presumably, it may be the latest Windows 10X - a system specially created by Microsoft for gadgets with two screens. It is in many ways similar to the standard top ten, but Windows 10X settings are more focused on touch screens. In addition to this, the 10X is designed more to be operated with a stylus or hand than with a keyboard or mouse.

At the time of the announcement, the Lenovo laptop is presented as a working prototype with all the necessary functions. At this stage, the gadget is equipped with almost everything that will later appear in the finished product. The manufacturer has not yet named the approximate cost of the laptop. According to some reports, the ThinkPad X1 will hit the market within the next year.
