Google held a corporate presentation, where it showed new items, among which there was an ultrathin laptop, headphones, a smart speaker, as well as a fourth-generation Google smartphone, presented in two almost identical Pixel 4 and 4 XL models. A notable feature of smartphones was the built-in radar, with which the gadget responds to gestures.

Design and main features

Almost all the characteristics of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL were revealed in the spring, almost six months before the official premiere. For this reason, the design of the new products did not cause a surprise reaction, although the company has seriously worked on the appearance of the devices, and in comparison with the three previous generations of "pixels", the new items received a completely rebuilt appearance. The screen of smartphones is limited by a large top frame, and the main camera on the back is enclosed in a square protrusion, like the eleventh iPhone 11.

In general, both models in terms of technical parameters represent one Google smartphone, differing only in the size and capacity of the battery. The younger Pixel 4 received a 5.7-inch OLED display with a 20: 9 aspect ratio and 90 Hz picture refresh. In the older Pixel 4 XL, everything is the same, only a larger screen diagonal - 6.3 inches. By modern standards, both smartphones have less powerful batteries. The more compact Pixel 4 has a capacity of 2800 mAh, and the 4 XL has 3700 mAh.

The base of the new Pixels is the modern Snapdragon 855 chipset from Qualcomm. New items support NFC technology for contactless payments, the Google Pixel smartphone comes pre-installed with the tenth Android OS. In addition, the gadgets are equipped with a Bluetooth 5 module, and the built-in USB-C 3.1 port performs two functions at once: acts as an audio output and is used for charging.

Camera parameters and front camera with radar

Continuing to follow the tradition, as in the first three series in the new generation of smartphones, Google wants to again pay attention to the capabilities of cameras, although in comparison with other modern devices, the number of sensors of the fourth Pixel is inferior to many devices. The company has worked on the main and front cameras, improving them with new frame processing algorithms. New items received a dual main camera, where the main 12 MP module is complemented by a 16-megapixel telezoom. The camera supports 60fps video recording in Full HD.

The selfie camera did not receive the highest resolution of 8 MP, although the Google smartphone can still boast of its feature. In addition to recording in Full HD at 60 fps, face unlocking, the front module is supplemented with the Motion Sense option. With its help, Pixel 4 and 4 XL are sensitive to gestures, that is, you can partially control your smartphone from a distance and without touching. The functionality is provided by Soli - a compact radar that detects hand movements. A radar sensor is placed on the top of the device, and its capabilities allow you to adjust the volume, drop incoming calls, select music and control some applications.

All assemblies of the fourth generation Pixel are presented in a single variant of 6 GB RAM. The internal memory is available in 64 and 128 GB versions. The Pixel 4 starts at $ 800, the older 4 XL model starts at $ 900.
