American animal rights organization PETA has named popular Hollywood actor Joaquin Phoenix "Person of the Year". The Hollywood Reporter reports this with reference to the official information.

It is noted that the three-time Oscar nominee recently appeared on PETA billboards as part of the We Are All Animals campaign, which was posted in Times Square and Sunset Boulevard. Thus, Phoenix supported the legislative ban on circuses that exploited wild animals.

In March 2019, the actor took part in the events of the National Animal Rights Day. He appeared at the ceremony with a dead chicken in his hands. Phoenix also produced the Animal People documentary on fauna rights activists.

"Joaquin Phoenix never misses an opportunity to divert attention from himself to the plight of animals, and set a great example of a dignified a vegan life, "PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement.

As a reminder, Phoenix has been in the spotlight following the box office success of Joker, which grossed over a billion dollars at the box office.
