For those looking to get a foldable smartphone, there is a cheaper option. It was invented by LG. They did not bother with the development of a new technology for bending the display, but went the other way.

This path is very simple and inexpensive. The developer's specialists used one of their flagship models as a base. It was equipped with another display mounted using a special hinged cover.

The result is a foldable smartphone LG G8X ThinQ, which is significantly cheaper than the Galaxy Fold.

The device received a 6.4-inch OLED display with an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 and a resolution of FHD + (2340 ? 1080 / 403ppi). The core of its hardware is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with an Adreno 640 graphics chip, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The latter can be easily expanded to 2 TB using microSD cards.

The photo capabilities of the device are represented by the main and front cameras. The first received two sensors, 12 and 13 megapixels, the second is equipped with a 32 megapixel lens.

The capabilities of the Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, Bluetooth 5.0 protocols are used for communication, access security is ensured by an optical fingerprint scanner built into the display.

Display and cameras

The main display of the LG G8X ThinQ features a waterdrop notch front camera. It has average brightness (430 nits) and good contrast. Whites and blacks are good here, but the resolution is not very high. Not everyone will like it, but it helps to save battery power.

There are seven modes for adjusting tones and color scheme: Movie, Game, Sports, Auto, Photo, Web, and Expert. There is also a night and reading mode, a blue filter, a dark theme.

It is possible to customize the navigation buttons. The screen can be easily reduced in size, making it easier to work with one hand.

For security of access, a fingerprint scanner is integrated into the display.

The second screen is similar in characteristics to the first, only it has a slightly worse white balance.

The gadget is equipped with two main camera sensors. These are the main and wide angle lenses. Some users would also like to have a depth sensor and telephoto lens.

Cameras received a standard application from the company. It is fast and highly customizable.

Photos in normal lighting are of high quality, it is worth noting good focus and accurate exposure. Images taken in the dark are grainy and noisy.

Software and autonomy
