Soon, the final part of the development of young Lara Croft - Shadow of the Tomb Raider will appear on store shelves. And if you have not yet decided whether the game is worth buying, we recommend that you pay attention to the first reviews of the new Tomb Raider in the Western press. The range of ratings for Shadow of the Tomb Raider was very wide and therefore, apparently, we are waiting for one of the most controversial games in the legendary series.
The Metacritic review aggregator so far has a 78 percent average for the PlayStation 4 version of the game with the most reviews. Separately, it is worth mentioning the version for Xbox One, which has a slightly higher rating - 83 percent. But even with the Microsoft console version, Shadow of the Tomb Raider's score falls short of the two previous installments of the Lara Croft reboot anyway, which were rated at around 86 percent. We will try to figure out why the new creation of Eidos Montreal was greeted without much enthusiasm.
Here are some short excerpts from Shadow of the Tomb Raider reviews:
Impulsegamer - 100
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a great example of how to create a game with an amazing storyline, a great protagonist, and well-functioning gameplay mechanics.
SpazioGames - 90
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the perfect conclusion to the Lara Croft Trilogy. The game tells about her past, conspiracies, the Mayan apocalypse and offers a completely new world to explore, full of settlements, jungles, dangerous tombs and numerous additional tasks.
JeuxActu - 80
Shadow of the Tomb Raider focuses on exploring the world and offers less fierce combat, making the game more deserving of its name than ever before. There are no unique mechanics in the game, and according to the general impression it still loses to the previous parts, but we must admit that the project turned out to be an exciting culmination of the charming Lara Croft's career. A truly exotic adventure.
USgamer - 70
Even with a new developer on board, Shadow of the Tomb Raider feels like a very familiar adventure. The additions to the stealth mechanics have come out great, and the bow implementation is still one of the best in the gaming industry. Then the firearms go into action, and the self-reflective story begins to slowly fall downward, forcing Lara to engage in routine and uninteresting work. Yet the puzzles in the tombs are wonderful. I think now Lara has become a real tomb raider.
Digital Spy - 60
The basic mechanics are stronger than ever, and the locations deserve the loudest delights, but the slow dynamics and the almost complete absence of weapon skirmishes are depressing, making the game an even slower and boring adventure. But, in any case, we are sure that fans of previous games will love the final part of the trilogy.
Telegraph - 40
As a Tomb Raider game, a game in general and a narrative experience, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an astounding failure for the franchise. Serious disappointment in a once-strong series and a clear sign that the modern version of Lara Croft needs to go on vacation.
Summing up, we can say with confidence who missed the very Lara Croft, in the mid-90s without the slightest modesty plundering ancient tombs, from Shadow of the Tomb Raider will receive a huge share of pleasure. We also recommend not to miss another September release - Spider Man 2018, which has both obvious advantages and a bunch of offensive flaws.
