Gambit is at a crossroads again

Image The audience did not have time to rejoice for the picture "Gambit", which was released at the end of the tunnel, when the blockbuster studio 20th Century Fox faced another problem. Director Gore Verbinski, who joined the project last October, suddenly decided to leave, citing a busy work schedule. The information site Deadline writes about this.

Verbinski had already assembled a team and even planned to start filming Gambit in March so that the film would be ready for release in February 2019. Insiders suspect that the true reasons for the director's departure were not disclosed, but this decision may be related to the purchase of 20th Century Fox by Disney.

At the same time, Channing Tatum remains loyal to Gambit and still plans to play the title character in the film. Since joining the project in 2014, the blockbuster has managed to change several directors: this post before Verbinski was held at different times by Rupert Wyatt and Doug Lyman. Not so long ago, Lizzie Kaplan joined the cast of "Gambit", but now her participation in the filming is in question.

As for the date of the premiere of the film, so far it has been postponed to June 7, 2019. It is reported that "Gambit" will be a film about a robbery with elements of comedy, and therefore, according to the studio, will fit better into the summer season of blockbusters.

At the same time, the releases of two more Fox superhero films were postponed: the second "Deadpool" will open in theaters two weeks ahead of schedule, namely on May 18, 2018, but the arrival of "New Mutants" movie fans will have to wait. The blockbuster will premiere on February 22, 2019, and such a change is explained by the major's desire to make the picture of Josh Boone even scarier, so that it matches the level set by last year's successful horror films.
