Ian McKellen is ready to return to Middle-earth
At the beginning of last month, it became known that New Line Cinema, HarperCollins and Tolkien Estate have started developing a series based on the famous fantasy saga of Middle-earth. In the fight for the adaptation of the epic J.R.R. Tolkien immediately joined several of America's leading online services and cable TV networks. As a result, the series went to the streaming giant Amazon, whose management paid about a quarter of a billion dollars for the rights to the project.First, rumors appeared on the Web that we were talking about a new adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, but then it became known that the serial drama promises to become a kind of prequel to the legendary literary work. Amazon clearly intends to work on the series on a Hollywood scale. According to preliminary information, the bosses of the streaming service expect to film six seasons with a total budget of $ 750 million. It is curious that only $ 281 million was spent on the creation of the "Lord of the Rings" movie series.  The already serious interest in Amazon's ambitious television project will surely skyrocket if the online service manages to attract one of the stars of the Peter Jackson trilogy to work on the series. As it turned out, one of the key actors of "The Lord of the Rings" is already ready to return to the familiar image. Sir Ian McKellen announced his desire to play Gandalf again on BBC Radio 2 in a conversation with popular British presenter Graham Norton. During the interview, Norton asked the 78-year-old actor how he felt about the possibility of another actor playing on the Amazon series. "What do you mean - the new Gandalf?," McKellen protested. -I didn’t agree to reincarnate as a wizard again just because no one had contacted me yet. Think they should find a new actor? Gandalf was over seven thousand years old. I'm not that old yet.  At one time, the role of Gandalf brought Ian the prestigious Saturn award and an Oscar nomination. Several years ago, the actor returned to the image of the light magician in another prequel to The Lord of the Rings - the Hobbit trilogy.
