Netflix Found New Superheroes

Image According to the news portal Deadline , the streaming platform Netflix has ordered ten episodes of a series called " Umbrella Academy ", based on the comic book of the same name from the frontman of the group My Chemical Romance Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Ba .

The project is executive produced and showrunner by Steve Blackman ("Fargo"), while the pilot was written by Jeremy Slater ("The Exorcist"). The series should appear on the screens in 2018.

In the center of the plot - Space Boy , Kraken , Rumor , Session , Number Five , Horror and White Violin , members of the disbanded superhero team, calling themselves Umbrella Academy . The heroes meet after the death of their adoptive father, Sir Reginald Hargreaves or, as he preferred to be called, Monocle . Alien Hargreaves , living on Earth under the guise of a famous scientist and entrepreneur, adopted seven children with superpowers and trained them as a team to save the world. Nine years ago, the group broke up, but now the heroes will have to work together again to uncover the mysterious death of their father, deal with your own injuries and abilities, and at the same time save the planet.

Graphic novels from Dark Horse Comics were warmly received by fans and critics alike, who praised their alternative take on the superhero genre.

“I am thrilled that Umbrella Academy has found shelter on Netflix , Gerard Way shared. -While creating the comic, I couldn't think of a better place for our creation with Gabriel Ba . And now I can't wait for the day when viewers can plunge into this world, embodied in the series. "

According to Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content, the comic attracted them for being completely unique - visually and stylistically. It is reported that the series will retain the atmosphere of graphic novels - dark but full of humor, supernatural, but still grounded in reality.

Umbrella Academy will not be the first comic adaptation on Netflix . The project will join a whole roster of online service series based on graphic stories about superheroes in the Marvel universe. Daredevil started in 2015, then projects about Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist came out, and on August 18 all these heroes will unite in a new show called The Defenders.
