The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences continues to update its records. A month ago, we reported that academics had received an unprecedented 85 entries for the World's Major Film Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Now Academy has unveiled a list of nominees for Best Animated Film. For the first time in history, 27 cartoons got a chance to win a gold statuette. The fight for victory promises to be fierce than ever before, because this year several well-known companies decided to submit two of their works to a strict jury. One of the favorites for the 89th Oscars Awards is Disney . Her animation masterpiece "Zootopia" and the adventure film "Moana", with the heroes of which our compatriots will be able to get acquainted with on December 1 , are on the long list. DreamWorks Animation is nominated for the prestigious award by Kung Fu Panda 3 and Trolls, and Illumination Entertainment is the Secret Life of Pets and the forthcoming "Sing". The list of participants in this category is difficult to imagine without the cartoon of the studio Pixar . This year, the famous animation company decided to submit its hit "Finding Dory", which is second only to the superhero action movie "Captain America: Civil War" on the list of the highest grossing films of this year. The shortlist of applicants in this and other categories will be announced on 24 January , and the 89th Oscars will take place on 26 February 2017 .
