Jesse Eisenberg will paint a picture of the great sea disaster
May was rich in new projects for Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network"). According to Screen Daily sources, the actor, along with Pierce Brosnan ("The Thomas Crown Affair") and Vanessa Redgrave ("Atonement") filming The Medusa.The film will be directed by Peter Webber, for whom the film will be the second project based on the famous work of art. The first was Girl with a Pearl Earring, filmed in 2003 and named after the painting by the Dutch master of the 17th century Jan Vermeer . Eisenberg will have to embody on the screen the image of Theodore Gericault , a French artist of the early 19th century, the largest representative of European painting of the era of romanticism. One of his most famous works is the painting "The Raft of the Medusa" , inspired by a massive sea disaster.  In 1816 the frigate Medusa crashed off the coast of Senegal. 147 people were left on the raft to the mercy of fate, which led to a disaster. Some were killed, others committed suicide, some were washed overboard by the wave, and some were thrown out by stronger rivals. The people who survived talked about the incompetence of the crew and cannibalism among the passengers. The painting written by Gericault , the plot of which the master himself considered relevant for centuries, aroused anti-government sentiments during the time of King Louis XVIII . Pierce Brosnan got the role of Gericault - Jean-Baptiste Caruel , who was the artist's sworn enemy and wanted to destroy him. Redgrave will play the opponent of royalty and the owner of the inn where the artist lived.
