On January 1, 2014, an astrocytoma was found in her brain. Brittany underwent surgery to resect part of the temporal lobe, but three months later the tumor returned as malignant glioblastoma. The doctors gave the girl a disappointing prognosis: she had about six months to live. Maynard decided to move from her native California to Oregon, one of three states with dignified death laws for the terminally ill. Brittany spent the rest of her days trying to draw public attention to the problem of euthanasia. Her video message on YouTube received several million views, and then CNN Corporation agreed to publish her article " My Right to Die with Dignity at 29 ". Brittany passed away on November 1, 2014, taking special pills to suppress respiratory function. At that moment, her friends and relatives were next to her. Last year, California authorities decided to pass a dignified death law that gives terminally ill people the right to voluntarily die.
