Vladimir Tolokonnikov was born on June 25, 1943 in Alma-Ata. He had an interest in the stage as a child, when he got a standing ovation from the audience during a performance at one of the school evenings. Soon Vladimir was invited to the local drama club, where he made the final decision to link his life with the acting profession.

After the army, Tolokonnikov got a job at the Kuibyshev Youth Theater. Several years later, he decided to pursue a professional education.
