Del Toro held the ticket for a fantastic trip

Image A Fantastic Voyage remake has been in development for quite some time. The project has changed writers and directors more than once, and Guillermo del Toro was the last to be attached to it. After "Pacific Rim" he directed the gothic horror "Crimson Peak" and the melodrama "The Shape of Water", and there was no talk of a new "Fantastic Voyage" until now. However, in an interview with Collider, del Toro assured the journalists that he did not forget about the remake and would do it after a while.

"The Shape of Water" won the main prize at the Venice Film Festival, earned rave reviews from critics who called it another del Toro's masterpiece, and is among the contenders for major film awards. For now, the filmmaker decided to focus on the promotional campaign for the melodrama, and after that he will turn his attention to Fantastic Journey, but first he will take a sabbatical for a year.

"Fantastic Journey" was part of my plans. In September I announced that I would take a one-year break, and if everything goes well, then next September we will start filming. We already had to postpone preparation, so everything starts over. This is an incredibly difficult film from a technical point of view, and I have a lot to think about., - said del Toro in an interview.

Recall that in the "Fantastic Voyage" of 1966, the group of doctors was reduced to microscopic sizes in order to get into the circulatory system of an elderly scientist and thus save him from death. The team of surgeons had only an hour to reach the patient's brain and remove the blood clot.

The directors of the remake were Roland Emmerich, Paul Greengrass and even James Cameron, who is still the producer of the project. Cameron and del Toro are longtime friends, and a few years ago they were even going to shoot an adult R-rated Lovecraft Ridge of Madness adaptation, but Universal refused to fund the movie due to a huge budget.

It is worth hoping that with Fantastic Journey everything will go according to plan, but fans of the eminent director's work, taught by bitter experience, know that del Toro's words do not always come true. At first, he said that the third "Hellboy" would never happen, but in the end the hero from the hell would return to the screens without Guillermo's participation.
