USA will continue to fight for Oscar - 2018

Image The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the list of films continuing to compete for the Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category.

Foreign filmmakers have helped the Academy renew last year's record for the number of applications for the world's main film awards. This year, films from 92 countries have entered the fight for the prestigious award. Nine films managed to overcome the pre-selection sieve.

The shortlist of nominees for the Best Foreign Film category presented several surprises at once. For the second year in a row, American film academics left the competition behind France, and also screened out Angelina Jolie's film "First They Killed My Father", which brought Cambodia a Golden Globe nomination a few days ago.

Fortunately for USA audiences, the opinion of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not differ on the drama Dislike. Andrei Zvyagintsev's tape remains in the Oscar race and has every chance of getting into the top five finalists, which will be announced on January 23.

The short list of nominees for the title of the best foreign film of 2017 includes:

"Square" (Ruben Estlund, Sweden)
