The Wheel of Time begins its run
This week, Atlanta is hosting the annual James Oliver Rigney Jr. American Writer Fan Festival. The world fame was brought to the author by the fantasy cycle " The Wheel of Time ", which he wrote under the pseudonym Robert Jordan .According to IGN , this year's JordanCon visitors and the multi-million army of connoisseurs of the legendary writer’s talent have more reason to rejoice. Sony Pictures Television has announced the start of work on a television series based on The Wheels of Time . Harriet McDougal, the widow of the creator of the book cycle, will act as a producer and consultant for the project. Rigney Jr. started the creation of the first part of the fantasy saga called " The Eye of the World " back in 1984. One of the sources of inspiration for the American when working on the work was Leo Tolstoy's novel " War and Peace ".  The work on the Wheels of Time universe took the writer six years. " The Eye of the World " was published in 1990 and quickly gained popularity among fans of the fantasy genre. The creator of the book cycle died in 2007, not having time to complete work on the twelfth novel, which was supposed to put the final point in his story. Writer Brandon Sanderson earned the right to complete the work on the saga, who decided to create not one, but three final books of the series based on the drafts of Robert Jordan . To date, 14 Wheels of Time novels have sold 80 million copies. The first attempt to film an epic fantasy saga was made in 2000, when NBC was planning to launch a mini-series based on the "Eye of the World ". To the disappointment of fans of the literary source, the project soon landed on the shelf. Eight years later, the studio Universal began to show an active interest in the film adaptation of the book cycle, but in the end its management did not dare to give the film the green light.  A couple of years ago, a serious scandal erupted around the rights to the film adaptation of " Wheels of Time ", but now all legal issues have finally been finally resolved. Sony Pictures Television has already entrusted the showrunner to Rafe Judkins . The producer and screenwriter is not only a longtime fan of the book cycle, but also has a wealth of experience on TV. His track record includes such well-known TV series as "4400" and "Agents of SHIELD." Fans of Wheels of Time can hope that Judkins will create a compelling script application that will interest the leaders of the leading online services and bosses of America's air and cable channels.
