Legendary will film a new version of Dune
Legendary , behind blockbusters such as Pacific Rim, Godzilla and Warcraft, has officially announced that it has acquired the rights to film and television adapt one of the most famous science fiction works of the 20th century. - a novel by Frank Herbert Dune .The book was first published in 1965, and in the intervening time has earned fame as a work that is incredibly difficult to film. Herbert's novel has won the prestigious Hugo and Nebula awards, and has sold over 12 million copies. The original literary source takes place in the distant future. The Atreides family receives from the Emperor control over the desert planet Arrakis , which is the only source of a valuable resource - mottled spice. For this reason, power over the planet has always been a bone of contention between the Great Houses . After the Atreides are betrayed, the heir of House Paul leads the rebellion so that his family can once again rule Arrakis .< / i>  In the mid-70s Alejandro Jodorovsky tried to film the novel Herbert , but the audience never saw this film - after five years of working on an ambitious project, the director never found support from Hollywood studios. Ten years later, David Lynch directed his version of "Dune" starring Kyle McLachlan. Then the picture failed at the box office and was defeated by critics, but over time, it still acquired the status of a cult. Already in 2000, the Syfy channel adapted the work for small screens in the format of a mini-series. The attempt was quite successful - the show won two Emmy awards.  Not so long ago, director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, The Assassin) admitted to reporters that he dreams of filming Dune , but at the same time expressed doubt that his wish will ever come true.
