The Australian actor Joel Edgerton , known for his roles in Black Mass, Loving and The Great Gatsby, tried his hand at directing several years ago. In 2015, he released his debut directorial work - the thriller "Gift". As it became known to the portal Deadline , Edgerton is ready to take on his next film. It will be a provocative drama called Boy Erased .The director himself took over the script. The film is an adaptation of the memoirs of Garrard Conley about the agonizing time he spent in the organization Love in Action , which tries to reprogram people from the LGBT community, so to speak. The son of a Baptist minister from a small conservative town in Arkansas, Conley told his parents about his sexual orientation at age 19. He had to attend a church-sponsored conservative therapy program aimed at "curing" homosexuality. Otherwise, he risked losing his family, friends and religion. However, instead of "recovering" and becoming heterosexual after a brutal 12-step program, he, on the contrary, managed to find the strength to accept his true identity.  The main role in the film will be played by the Oscar nominee Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea). Edgerton himself plans to play the man who runs the therapy program. But for a supporting role, he wants to invite his compatriots - Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman. They have long discussed the possibility of working together, and Edgerton wants Crowe and Kidman to play the roles of the protagonist's parents. The project aroused great interest - at the moment Annapurna , Netflix , Amazon and Focus Features companies are fighting for the rights to the picture. ... Filming is due to begin this fall.
