Lisbeth Salander returns
Sony Pictures has officially launched the sequel to the detective thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo directed by David Fincher. Filming, according to the film company, will begin in September, and The Girl Who Was Stuck in the Web will be released on October 5, 2018 .The work on the sequel will be headed by another director - Federico Alvarez, best known for his films "Don't Breathe" and "Evil Dead: The Black Book". According to Variety , the cast of the film will also undergo changes. Rooney Mara, who starred in the first adaptation of Stieg Larsson's novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , will not take part in the filming.  According to confidential sources, at the moment, the main candidates for the role of Lisbeth Salander are Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman. Johansson , the star of the upcoming fantasy drama Ghost in the Shell, is known to have wanted to play the role of Salander back in the original film, Fincher directed in 2011 , but in the end the choice of director fell on Rooney Mara .  The new project Alvarez is based on a detective novel by Swedish writer David Lagerkranz. The Girl Who Was Trapped in the Web is a sequel to the Millennium by Stieg Larsson Trilogy about the life of the hacker Lisbeth Salander and her journalist friend Mikael Blomkvist . In the book, which will form the basis of the painting Alvarez , Blomkvist and Salander are engaged in another investigation - the murder of a famous scientist in the field of artificial intelligence.
