Philip Dick's ”second model” to go to TV

Image The works of the cult American science fiction writer Philip K. Dick again attracted the close attention of filmmakers. Over the past few years, viewers have been able to see such projects based on the author's stories as "Reality Changing", "Recall All", "The Man in the High Castle", "Minority Report". Just the other day, Blade Runner 2049 with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford kicked off in cinemas, and the Channel 4 series, Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams, with a truly "golden" cast of actors, was launched on the small screens. According to the information portal Deadline, the TV bosses decided not to stop there.

Reel One Entertainment has acquired the rights to film Dick's short story "The Second Model" and is about to make a TV series based on it. The adaptation will be handled by television veteran David Titcher (Librarians, Houdini & Doyle, Around the World in 80 Days). This story has already been transferred to screens: in 1995, Canadian director Christian Dugay filmed Screamers with Peter Weller in the title role, which, without much commercial success, eventually became considered a cult in the genre of space fiction.

The events of history develop in 2078 on the planet Sirius-6B, which is a strong point in the confrontation with the NEB - the New Economic Block. Major Joseph Hendrix, head of the rebel army called the Commonwealth, has been assigned to command the defense of an outpost on Sirius. The squad's key trump card in the war against the NEB is the "screamers", a supernova weapon programmed to kill any living organisms and then transport their parts to an underground base for processing. Commonwealth soldiers wear special electronic bracelets that interfere and prevent "screamers" from attacking them. However, at some point, the deadly machines get out of control and threaten to destroy all of humanity.

David Titcher will write and executive produce the upcoming series. Reel One Entertainment will also co-produce with Charles Fries and Anthony Ginnain, who worked on Screamers in 1995.
