Eric Bana saddles the iron horse

Image Australian Eric Bana talks about the life of one of the greatest racers of the 20th century. The Troy and Munich star will write, co-direct and star in Mike Halewood's biopic.

Mike's major successes are related to motorsport. The Briton has competed in 152 MotoGP races and has remained off the podium just 40 times. Particularly memorable are Halewood's victories on the most dangerous track of the World Championship in road-ring motorcycle racing - Isle of Man. In the summer of 1961, Mike achieved an incredible achievement for those times, winning the competition in three motorcycle classes.

In the late 1960s, Halewood made the transition from motorcycle to motorsport. He became one of the few speed enthusiasts to compete at the Grand Prix level in various racing disciplines. Mike showed good results in Formula 1, won two European Formula 2 titles and climbed to the podium at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Bana & Robert Connolly's Paper Airplanes chronicle Halewood's triumphant return to motorsport. In 1978, the Briton entered the Isle of Man after an 11-year hiatus. Journalists doubted the 38-year-old veteran's success, but he put critics to shame and won a landslide victory in the Formula TT motorcycle race.

Bana is a big fan of auto and motor sports. In 2009, he made his directorial debut with the documentary Love the Monster, dedicated to the Ford Falcon. The film was critically acclaimed and became one of the highest grossing documentaries in Australian history. Now Eric is preparing for a directorial debut in a feature film.
