War Thunder has received the Starfighters update

Image Gaijin Entertainment announces the release of the large-scale update “ Starfighters ” for the online military action game War Thunder . In addition to the previously announced branch of the Italian fleet - more than 20 torpedo boats, destroyers and cruisers - a branch of Japanese helicopters has appeared, as well as the F-104 Starfighter and Mirage IIIC supersonic fighters. Finally, cross-platform multiplayer in War Thunder is even better thanks to matchmaking between consoles: now PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users can now play together in all modes and create a squad with their friends regardless of their platforms.

The F-104 was developed taking into account the experience of the Korean War, was used in Vietnam by the US army and was in service with thirteen other countries. In War Thunder , two American and several export aircraft modifications are available at once. Already the F-104A, the first production version of Starfighter , is equipped with a six-barrel 20mm M61 Vulcan cannon with a rotating barrel and can carry two Sidewinder guided missiles. In later modifications, the engine was improved and the range of auxiliary weapons was expanded. In Italy, these improved vehicles remained in service until 2004.

Another famous combat aircraft of the same era is the French Mirage IIIC, the first European fighter to double the speed of sound in level flight. Moreover, the Mirage IIIC can carry the SEPR 844 rocket booster, which additionally enhances thrust. The aircraft carries a wide range of outboard weapons, including air-launched missile systems, as well as unguided missiles and bombs. The Mirage IIICs were used by Israel during the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and by Argentina in the Falklands War.

The update introduces the first sample of armored vehicles with radar capable of detecting ground targets. This is the 9P157 “Chrysanthemum”, a Soviet tank destroyer based on the BMP-3. The radar together with the thermal imager allow the Chrysanthemum to easily spot enemies and launch two ATGMs simultaneously at two different targets. The Japanese range has been replenished with the Type 93, a modern lightweight air defense system based on an off-road vehicle, equipped with eight infrared-guided surface-to-air missiles. For connoisseurs of exoticism, there is a modern Bangladeshi tank Type 69-IIG - a modification of the Chinese Type 69 with additional reactive armor and an extended gun.

The update will add dozens of other models of military equipment from different eras and nations. As a result, the total number of real pieces of equipment in War Thunder exceeded 1700 units. You can always find detailed information about them on the official website.
