The Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington Case

Image In 1993, Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington co-starred in The Pelican Affair, based on the popular thriller by John Grisham, and nearly 30 years later the actors are ready to work on another film adaptation. Roberts and Washington will star in Leave the World Behind * based on the novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam.

The book is just being prepared for publication, but its adaptation has attracted the attention of many companies. The distribution rights for the project eventually went to Netflix. The online service's competitors included MGM, Apple, and some producers suggested turning Alam's novel into a miniseries. As a result, the choice fell on the full-length format. The film will be directed and written by Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot).

The action of the original revolves around two families forced to share a country house, while in the city there is a complete blackout: all phones, televisions, radio are out of order, there is no Internet. The heroes cut off from civilization must find out what is happening. While strange things are happening around, and people begin to lose their minds, the inhabitants of the country house are more concerned with racial and class problems, since members of one family are white-skinned, and the other is dark-skinned. Roberts will play the mother of a family that has decided to rent a house, and Washington represents the family that owns a country house. Who will get the role of their second half is still unknown.

It is noteworthy that the new film will mark a double reunion for Julia Roberts: she will be able to work again not only with Denzel Washington, but also with Sam Esmail. The actress collaborated with the latter on the set of the drama "Return".
