Fly, bird woman!

Image Last year, another challenge related to a scary woman named Momo gained momentum on the Web. In the WhatsApp messenger, a viral deadly game began in which teenagers were asked to write, call or answer Momo's call. The creature with pale skin and bulging eyes intimidated users, threatened them with the promise of imminent death and urged them to harm themselves. The authorities in several countries claim that the game has caused a number of teenage suicides. Now Hollywood producers intend to continue the challenge on the big screens.

Orion Pictures, behind the latest Children's Games, will join forces with Roy Lee (It) and his company Vertigo Entertainment, as well as Japanese producer Takashige Ichise, to make a film about Momo. It is noteworthy that Lee and Itise have worked together more than once - it was they who opened the way for "The Curse" and "The Ring" to the American film market.

As for Momo, the first photos of a scary woman on chicken legs appeared on the Web in 2016 - it was then that LinkFactory presented a sculpture called "Mother Bird" at an exhibition in Japan. The artist Keisuke Aisawa saw her as the embodiment of a mother who lost her child and flies at night in the guise of a bird to strike terror in other people. Aisawa was inspired by the legend of Ubume, an evil bird from Japanese folklore that abducts children. What exactly Lee and Itise want to film is still unknown.

It is noteworthy that Momo will receive not one full-length film, but two at once. In addition to the Orion Pictures project, the horror film GETAWAY is also in the works. He will talk about a group of teenagers gathered in a hut in the forest. One of those present decides to tell the legend about Momo - the spirit of a bird woman who tortures her victims through messages and phone calls. A harmless joke has dire consequences, and teenagers begin to disappear without a trace one after another.

Momo also shares similarities with another internet sensation, Slender Man, who made his way to the big screens last year. Due to conflicts and disagreements that accompanied the filming of "Slender Man", Sony studio released an unfinished version of the horror, and now its rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website is only 7%. At the same time, the film recaptured its $ 10 million budget, grossing almost $ 52 million at the box office.
