US Box Office paused

Image The coronavirus pandemic is sweeping the planet, forcing people to stay home, comply with quarantine measures and thereby reduce the spread of the infection. One of the ways to limit mass gatherings was the closure of various entertainment venues, including cinemas. And if the Ministry of Culture of the USA Federation so far only recommends cinemas to turn off screens, then in the United States such a measure has already borne fruit. Public health is the most important, but the film industry has taken another blow in the stomach. For almost the first time in the history of box office counting, which began even before the advent of computers, distributors' income over the weekend amounted to zero US dollars.

After the largest American cinema chains announced a temporary closure, which could drag on for as long as 12 weeks, no one expected fabulous profits. What's more, Disney said it would not release weekly reports until the situation stabilizes. According to an industry representative, the latest data came to him on Thursday - at that time only nine cinemas were opened in the United States, and the highest-grossing film was the re-release of The Big Lebowski.

Hollywood studios have already resorted to unprecedented measures to somehow justify the release of the latest new products. Earlier than planned, streaming services included the cartoon "Forward", the thrillers "The Invisible Man" and "The Hunt", as well as the dramedies "Emma". Sonic, Bloodshot and Birds of Prey will soon join them.
