Bruce Beresford will direct Buddy Holly's biopic

Image Director Bruce Beresford, best known for Chauffeur Miss Daisy, will direct a biopic about American singer Buddy Holly and his 1958 concert tour. The film, dubbed Clear Lake, will be produced by Stuart Benjamin, who worked on the biographical drama Ray. The script was written by Patrick Shenahan.

Clear Lake will light up Badi Holly's life as a teenager and then transport viewers to 1958 when he teamed up with the founder of Little Anthony & the Imperials, Clarence Collins organized the tour, overcoming multiple racial barriers every day. The film will tell about Buddy's relationship with Little Richard, La Verne Baker and other stars of the time, and will also show the meeting with Holly's future bride Maria Elena and the tragic plane crash that ended his life. Maria Elena will take part in the work on the biopic as one of the associate producers.

According to the creators of the project, the main subtext of this story will be how black, white and Latin American artists came together in a grand musical gathering to break down racial prejudices, just as Jackie Robinson did in his time in professional baseball. The preliminary date for filming is this fall, but everything will depend on the development of the pandemic.
