Showtime is preparing a biographical series dedicated to the life and work of the singer, dancer, public figure and actress Lina Horn ("Rainy Weather", "Shack in Heaven"). At this stage, the project is called Blackbird: Lena Horne and America ("Blackbird: Lena Horne and America"), which is a reference to Lina's favorite poem "13 Ways to See a Blackbird." Her granddaughter Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman are working on the script, both will also act as producers of the future show.The series will cover 60 years of Lina Horn's life, from her 16 years as a dancer at the Cotton Club, through WWII and her glory days at MGM, to the civil rights movement and the star's triumphant return to Broadway. The series will also show Lina's relationship with such icons of the time as Ava Gardner, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Orson Welles, Paul Robison and Hattie McDaniel.
