From the ship to Dracula's arms

Image For almost two decades, the project called "The Last Voyage of Demeter" moved from studio to studio, changed directors, but finally a horror movie inspired by the work of Bram Stoker arrived in a new port, and even with a new captain. Amblin Partners decided to host the film, and Andre Ovredal agreed to lead the filming.

"Demeter" is the name of the ship on which the infamous Count Dracula arrived in London from Transylvania. When the ship docked, there was only one half-insane survivor on board. The first draft of the script back in 2002 was written by Bragy F. Shute ("Claustrophobes"), and it just described how the mysterious passenger dealt with the Demeter crew.

During its wanderings in Hollywood, "Demeter's Last Journey" attracted a variety of directors who have earned a name for themselves in the horror genre. In 2012, David Slade (30 Days of Night) was involved in the project, and Viggo Mortensen, Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace applied for the main roles. However, then this movie ship did not catch the tailwind.

Several years ago, Andre Ovredal shot the atmospheric horror film The Demon Inside, in which the main characters had to survive the night in the morgue, and this experience will certainly help the director in The Last Voyage of Demeter, which also takes place in one location - on a ship. The Norwegian has his own unique style, and "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" proved it once again, but before he steps on board with Count Dracula, Ovredal will film King's "Long Walk.
