Fights in life and in the ring

Image TeamAkers Productions and Lookout Point Studios will tell the story of the life of an English athlete who made a huge contribution to the development of women's boxing. British companies are filming the memoir of five-time world lightweight champion Jane Coach.

The Englishwoman became interested in sports at the age of 26, after seeing a documentary about women's boxing. Jane soon found out that the UK Boxing Federation prohibits women from obtaining professional licenses. Sports officials believed that women were psychologically unstable for this type of martial arts. The coach saw discrimination on the basis of gender in the ban and turned to human rights lawyers for help.

In March 1998, a British court sided with Jane and granted boxing licenses to women. The coach received the status of a professional athlete and won several championship belts. Following her retirement in the ring, she became a promoter and contributed to the introduction of women's boxing into the Summer Olympics program.

In September last year, Jane released her autobiography, The Last Round. BAFTA award winner Suranna Jones (Dr. Foster) will act as a producer and one of the supporting roles in the adaptation of the athlete's memoirs.
