The rivalry between Nikola Tesla and Thomas A. Edison will forever remain one of the most striking oppositions in the history of science. Therefore, filmmakers quite often refer to this topic in their creations - take at least the recent "War of Currents". Director Michael Almereida decided to destroy the ideas of moviegoers about Tesla himself and about biopics in general. His Tesla tape is pure experiment in which the historical drama is spiced with a bit of postmodernism, so don't be surprised when the fourth wall collapses and the voice-over starts broadcasting about Google.The brilliant, progressive Nikola Tesla struggles to realize his revolutionary electrical system, but faces many challenges. The film depicts Tesla's uneasy relationship with Thomas A. Edison and George Westinghouse, while Anne, the daughter of the financial titan J.P. Morgan, tells the story of the rise and fall of the great inventor. For the lead role in Tesla, Almereida invited Ethan Hawke, with whom he had already worked on Hamlet and Cymbelin. It is noteworthy that Edison was played in the film by Kyle McLoughlen, also involved in Hamlet in 2000. Other participants in the so-called War of Currents include Eve Hewson (Robin Hood: The Beginning), Jim Gaffigan (Chappaquiddick) and Hannah Gross (Mindhunter).
