Lionsgate casts magic paste

Image Lionsgate has acquired the rights to film the popular US classic, Strega Nona, a series of children's books by Tomi de Paola. The project is produced by Ian Bruce, whose portfolio includes films such as Saving Private Ryan and Almost Famous, and Hardy Howl Films, which was behind the successful collection and reviews of The True Story of Red Hat. br />
The first book in the series was published in 1975. Strega Nona is a witch grandmother who works magic on her pasta pot day after day. One day one of her assistants, who looks after Big Anthony's house and garden, waited until his grandmother went to town on business and crept to the pot, which had long intrigued him. After reading a magic spell over him, he launched a chain of incredible events that threaten to lead to disastrous results.

The circulation of de Paola's books has exceeded 25 million copies. In addition, for Strega Nona, Tomi received the Caldecott Medal, America's most prestigious children's literature award.“I am thrilled this holiday season to know that my characters will go to the big screen with the help of the Ian Bryce Productions / Lionsgate collaboration,” the writer said.
