A tragedy worthy of Shakespeare. Ophelia Trailer

Image The work of William Shakespeare is an endless source of inspiration for filmmakers. Someone is trying to modernize the works of the bard, someone only borrows his ideas, and some recreate in detail the original stories on the screens. One of Shakespeare's greatest creations, the tragedy "Hamlet", received several dozen adaptations, but Australian Claire McCarthy ("Waiting City") went even further - she decided to tell the audience a story of love and revenge from Ophelia's point of view, based on the novel by the writer Lisa Klein.

The drama "Ophelia" is set in medieval Denmark. The title heroine, being one of the most loyal ladies of Queen Gertrude, attracts the attention of Prince Hamlet, and a passionate romance breaks out between the young people, which they are forced to keep secret. At this time, serious passions are boiling in the kingdom, political intrigues are woven and a war is brewing. The murder of his father makes Hamlet step on the path of revenge, and Ophelia must choose what to fight for - for true love or her own life ...

The main role in the film went to Daisy Ridley, and her lover was played by George McKay. Oscar nominees Naomi Watts and Clive Owen, as well as Tom Felton were seen surrounded by a couple in love. The film premiered last year at the Sundance festival, but for a year and a half it was gathering dust on the shelf despite the fact that critics considered it a very clever, dynamic and vibrant melodrama.
