Sofia Coppola will film the American Dream novel

Image The Lost in Translation director is filming the novel Country Custom by American writer Edith Wharton, the first woman in history to win a Pulitzer Prize. Sofia Coppola will turn Country Custom into a series for the Apple TV + streaming service, writing and directing all episodes of the TV adaptation.

In the center of the plot is Ondine Sprugg, a simple girl from the Midwest who tries to find her place in the cruel world of New York. The girl makes her way up to the upper strata of society, a series of marriages, thereby realizing the American dream. Sofia Coppola stated that Ondine, as a satirical embodiment of the new businesswoman type, is her favorite literary anti-heroine.

Although there have previously been attempts to film Country Custom starring Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Coppola will be the first director in the industry to tell the story of Undine Sprugg on TV.
