Mean Girls Return to Screens

Image Paramount is bringing new life to the Mean Girls franchise. North Shore High School students will come to the movie screens with jokes, songs, dances and, of course, new teenage problems.

The original film by Mark Waters, written by Tina Fey, was released in 2004. Mean Girls has earned critical acclaim, grossed nearly $ 129 million on a $ 17 million budget, and has gained cult status among fans of teen comedy. Paramount squandered the potential of the series: the 2011 sequel passed without the stars of the original and went straight to TV.

Fey sent her North Shore students to Broadway two years ago. The musical Mean Girls became a huge hit and brought the creators more than $ 100 million. At the moment, they are finishing negotiations on transferring the performance to the stages of London's West End.

News of the success of the musical reached Paramount executives, who approached Faye with the idea of reworking the libretto into a feature film script. It seems that movie lovers are waiting for a new trend - remakes of Broadway remakes of Hollywood hits.
